Hello gliders! I’m Greg, Creative Director of Shedworks. The team and I are very excited to finally have Sand in your hands on Playstation 5! The team has done a great job and we think you will enjoy some of the new features and content.
For those of you who are new to Sable, this game is a coming-of-age adventure in the world of Midden. Our heroine Sable embarks on her kitesurfing journey, a journey of self-discovery that takes her to scenic locations, remote campsites and ancient ruins, meeting friends and strangers along the way. With their help, she learns more about their way of life, sees new sides of herself, and finally chooses the mask she wants to wear for the rest of her life. The mask is a study of personality. Everyone in Midden goes through a ceremony called “The Gliding” when they come of age, where they travel the world and try on different masks until they finally find the one that suits them best. The mask they choose is part of how they present themselves to the world. Do they want to pursue a certain profession or play a certain role in society? Or will they choose a mask that symbolizes rejection of convention? Our goal with Sable is to trust you as a player: once Sable leaves her family, we fully unlock the game and give you the freedom to tackle any location, mission or action in any order. Every mission in the game is optional. This means you can choose which parts of the Midden you’re interested in and which characters you want to learn more about. What you do is driven by your imagination and hopefully ignites your curiosity and wanderlust because adventure awaits you around every corner. Along with the freedom to explore, it was important to us to create an inclusive, warm and welcoming game for all travelers. This included the portrayal of people with different gender and sexual identities. We also wanted to point out that you are not struggling. The vivarium showcases local flora and fauna, but the SP needs Sable’s help to build the collection. Sable can bring back any fish or butterfly she has collected on her journey and fill the halls of the Vivarium the next time she visits. Finally, we wanted to take the opportunity to make Midden exploration more fun with the DualSense controller. You’ll feel the adjustable trigger resistance as you ride the Sable and Simon dune bike. Tactile feedback lights up when the sable floats in the ball, vibrates when there’s a lot of movement around it, and even lets you know if it’s near a hidden group or a bug to catch.
